Sabbath Worship Weekends
On the 2nd Saturday of each month at 5:00pm, worship at Southminster is a special Sabbath Worship experience. On these weekends, we worship on Saturday evening, taking the following Sunday morning as a day of intentional sabbath rest.
Sabbath Worship Weekends tend to be more informal, more contemporary, and often even a little “outside the box.” Our Sabbath Musician is Sean Rogers, an acclaimed organist, and jazz improvisational pianist (oh yeah, and an Episcopal priest!). Each month’s Sabbath worship also includes a celebration of the Sacrament of Communion.
But creative worship is only part of the reason we cherish Sabbath Worship Weekends. The other reason? Rest and renewal! At the start of Sabbath Worship, Pastor TJ will often remind the congregation that while there are many things that can fill our time on our “free” Sunday morning, not all of them are fulfilling. Worshipers are encouraged to put away the Costco shopping lists, and find ways to reconnect to the divine… whether that be an early morning hike, curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee, or even just sleeping in with intentionality.
Our Sabbath worship services are held in the sanctuary on the second Saturday of each month at 5:00pm. There is no worship service the next Sunday morning.
