Dinners for 8 – Coming Soon!

August 25, 2022 By TJ Remaley

Your Connections Committee is excited to share that Dinners for 8 is returning after a long pandemic-induced hiatus. For our Dinners for 8 program, hosts open their homes for an evening of shared food and conversation, with guests agreeing to bring something to contribute to the meal.

Soon, you find sign-up sheets in the narthex, asking if you are willing to host or be a guest at one of these dinners. Because COVID and other illnesses continue to lurk in our midst, we want to do this safely. Options include hosting on patios or other outdoor places, or to have only 4-6 guests. The initial sign-up is simply to gauge interest, and then the committee will plan from there. We plan for dinners to begin in late September or early October.

Book Club Resumes – Sept. 1

August 11, 2022 By TJ Remaley

The Southminster Book Club starts up again on September 1st.  This is a zoom meeting that is held at 7pm on the first Thursday of every month.  Anyone is WELCOME to join us – just contact the church office to be added to the Book Club mailing list.

Our selection for September is “Black, White, and the Grey” by Mashama Bailey and John O. Morisano. The story is about a Black chef from Queens and a White media entrepreneur who partner up, relocate to the South, and build a relationship and a restaurant (in a dilapidated Greyhound bus station) to get people talking about race, gender, class, and culture. In October we will be discussing “Searching for Sunday” by Rachel Held Evans. Hope you can join us!
