Adult Education – Winter/Spring 2024
The “Conversations That Matter” adult education series throughout the fall was so well-received, we’ve extended topics into the winter too! Then, once the Season of Lent begins, we’ll transition to a time of Lenten study.
Below is the original “Conversations That Matter” announcement, as well as a schedule of Winter sessions.
Discussion about many of our world’s most complicated topics often struggle to move beyond the soundbites of the 24-hour news cycle. This year, our Adult Education hopes to deepen our understanding of social issues, and most importantly, to learn how to engage these topics as people of faith.
This study will meet on Sunday mornings after worship and fellowship (note: we do not meet on Sabbath weekends). While our conversations may build upon one another, those who can’t come weekly are still encouraged to come when they can!
Planned Schedule of Topics:
- Jan 21 – Boise Housing Issues (presented by Deanna Watson)
- Jan 28 – World Cruise (Panama Canal, Ring of Fire, migration across Pacific, International Date line, New Zealand/ islander religions/ Hobbits, Australian mammals )
- Feb 4 – World Cruise (SE Asia-cultural differences, Saigon, Singapore, Thailand, India, comparison of eastern religions, Petra, Suez Canal, Israel, Mediterranean)
- Feb 18 – Lenten Studies
- Feb 25 – Lenten Studies
- Mar 3 – Lenten Studies
- Mar 17 – Lenten Studies
- Mar 24 – Lenten Studies
- Mar 31 – EASTER (no Adult Ed)
SAGES Lunch & Learn – Jan 18
The next SAGES lunch and learn will be Thursday, January 18. Lunch will begin at 11:30am, with a program to follow. Pastor TJ will lead this month’s program, offering a look back at the church’s ministries in 2023 and a look forward to the ministries in the year ahead. All are welcome to attend! Please RSVP to Darleen and Roger Brown, Kathryn Nicholas, or the Church Office.
Star Words – Epiphany 12/7
The presentation of “Star Words” is a beloved Southminster tradition, and a great year to set intentions for the new year ahead. This year, we will receive our Star Words during worship on Sunday January 7 at 9:30am, as we celebrate Epiphany.
Will you be worshiping online? Are you out of town? Stars will remain available in the church Narthex/Lobby for the month of January. You can also contact the church office, and TJ or Alix will gladly pull a star (at random) for you.
