PWS – June 2024

June 3, 2024 By SPC

We have had wonderful speakers/presenters for our first of the month’s Wednesday Gatherings. In May we had one of our own members, Marilyn Fredericks, who presented her beautiful talent of painting. If you have suggestions for next year’s programs let a CT member know or come to the program planning session in June.

Twelve ladies from Southminster attended the PWS Spring Gathering in Parma. The program was excellent.

Sue W. has been talking to schools who say that about 490 backpacks will be needed for schools next year. Stay tuned for when to help.

We will have a nice representation of Southminster women at the World Wide Gathering in Louisville this summer. Attending are Alix P., Dana D. Jackie B., Julie E., Priscilla O., and Rae B. Also Rev. Marianne Paul will be attending.

In June the new officers will be installed at Gathering by Rev. TJ Remaley. Please join us, a great group of ladies, on June 5th, for the Gathering of worshiping women and women who like to eat lunch together.

Bread for the World Presentation – June 2

April 30, 2024 By SPC

Do you ever wish that you could do more to tackle some of the big problems of our world? Southminster Presbyterian Church is very active in our local community to help prevent hunger. But…..what about beyond that? What about the larger problem of world hunger? Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization that is actively working to influence decision makers with the goal of ending world hunger.

David Gist, the western organizer of Bread For The World, will be visiting Boise, ID June 1- June 4. He will be at Southminster Presbyterian Church for worship on June 2 and he will be leading our adult education class after worship from 11 am – 12 noon. During this time he will talk about hunger and about things that Bread For The World is doing. It will be a great opportunity for us to find out how we can do more on a systems level to affect change in the world.

While Bread for the World is a new conversation partner for us at Southminster, we have been tangentially connected for many years! The PC(USA)’s Presbyterian Hunger Program, supported with donations from the One Great Hour of Sharing offering we receive each year, partners with Bread for the World in its work.

Pentecost Special Offering – 5/19

April 29, 2024 By SPC

We will receive the Pentecost Offering, one of the four special offerings of the PC(USA), on Pentecost Sunday (May 19). This offering unites us in a church-wide effort to support the health, safety, and nurture of children, youth, and young adults in our local neighborhood and around the world. Through the Pentecost Offering, we partner in the nurture of faith for young people who will bear witness to God’s Grace in the generations to come. To make a donation, look for offering envelopes in the narthex, or write
“Pentecost” in the memo line of a check made out to Southminster.

The PWS Holiday Bazaar is Coming!

April 29, 2024 By SPC

The annual PWS (Presbyterian Women of Southminster) Holiday Bazaar is coming! October 18 and 19, 2024, are the dates. Please mark your calendars. As usual PWS will appreciate your help to make this a great success. Besides handmade items and baked goods, we’d love to have jewelry, house plants, Halloween, fall, Thanksgiving, winter and Christmas decorations, home decor and gift possibilities. We’d also appreciate paper bags with handles. Questions or ideas contact Sara Nevill, Darleen Brown or Carolyn Warner. Thanks in advance for your help.

The Holiday Bazaar is the largest fundraising opportunity PWS provides each year, with all proceeds supporting women in leadership; church enhancement projects; and congregational mission/outreach.
