PWS Updates – October 2023

Presbyterian Women will be Gathering on October 4 for the business meeting at 11:00 am, Lunch at 12:00pm by the Ruth and Rachel circles, and then our guest, Marianne Paul, will speak on Justice and Peace in the lives and work of Presbyterian Women.

Join a circle the third week of the month for a friendly study of “Sacred Encounters” Luke-Acts.

Beautiful fall colors are like a rainbow in the sky, reminding us of God’s Glory. Enjoy each day.

Boise Presbytery PW Fall Retreat: Finding Your Sanctuary
Saturday, October 21, 2023, 9:00 – 3:30 Covenant Presbyterian Church (4848 N. Five Mile Road, Boise)
Registration is $20 includes lunch and child care if requested. An offering will be taken to support sending a woman to the Churchwide Gathering in August of 2024.

PWS Updates – September 2023

As children head back to school and fall flowers appear we have the Gatherings to look forward to. The first one is Sept. 6th when Jackie Benjamin will present an exciting overview of this year’s study, “Sacred Encounters” centering on Jesus in Luke-Acts. Also, we have some wonderful retreats to attend:

  1. “Resting in Jesus” led by Shana Woodbury, a One-day Women’s Retreat. Register by September 20. $20.00 see below for more details.
  2. On October 21 there is the Fall Boise Presbytery PW Retreat at Covenant Presbyterian Church from 9:00am-3:30pm. “Finding Your Sanctuary” $20.00

Nampa, One-Day Women’s Retreat Coming in September!
“Resting in Jesus” is a one-day women’s retreat on Saturday, September 30, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Nampa Presbyterian Church, 400 Lake Lowell Ave., Nampa — and YOU ladies are invited. Shana Woodbury, certified Lay Pastor from Southminster in Boise, is leading our time together. A continental breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m. at the church, and lunch will be served to us at midday. Shana has lots of insightful activities and discussions to share with us. We hope you will plan to retreat with us, enjoy a couple of meals together, and let Shana help us to rest in Jesus.

Registration forms are available on the counter by Alix’s office and the “Resting in Jesus” flyer.

Donations Welcome
PWS is still collecting items for the homeless and Boise Mission. The items needed are water bottles, towels and washcloths, hygiene items, and socks (men’s, women’s, and children’s). You can bring your donations to the Narthex and leave them in the blue basket in the corner by Alix’s office.

Preparing for the Bazaar

Presbyterian Women of Southminster are super excited to host a Holiday Bazaar again this year! Here it is already approaching September, and the bazaar is coming up fast! Mark Your Calendar for Fri., October 27 and Sat., October 28, 2023

Please consider what you can make and donate for the sale and if you can volunteer some time to help! Many hands make light work for all and ensure we have a fun and successful bazaar.

Suggestions for items to donate:

  • Baked Goods of any kind, gift containers with candy
  • Home Sewn Items: table runners, placemats, potholders, aprons, pillows, tree skirts, baby blankets, bibs, quilted items of any kind
  • Holiday: floral arrangements, wreaths, decorations, Christmas trees, table decorations, dishes, and kitchen items
  • Woodworking: birdhouses, birdfeeders, planters, serving boards, signs
  • Handmade Gifts: crochet, knitting, kid’s toys, soap, sachets, cards, picture frames, jewelry boxes
  • Gift Baskets
  • Costume Jewelry
  • Antiques
  • Collectables
  • Artwork: pottery, paintings, drawings, clay, macramé, painted rocks
  • Potted plants, terrariums, fairy gardens

Our shoppers really like that we have a variety of things at our sale!

Set-Up: We will set up starting Monday table set up and continue Tuesday – Thursday getting everything in place, priced and ready to open Friday AM.

PW Horizons Bible Studies

Each year the four circles of PWS gather monthly from September through May to study and share thoughts about the lessons in the current years Horizon Bible study book. We have 1, 2 and even 4 new unused copies left over from the
past few years which we would love to have put to good use. Interested in doing a nine lesson study yourself or with a friend, neighbor, sister or group of just four? Example of topics include Who is Jesus?, Cloud of Witnesses, What My
Grandmothers Taught me, Celebrating Sabbath and much more. Contact Ruth Ann Alm for free available books or to inquire about joining a circle this fall.

Worship: 9:30am
(except Sabbath Weekends)

Sabbath Weekends

Worship on the Second Saturday of the month is at 5:00pm. The next morning is a day of Sabbath rest, with no worship or activities.

Our Denomination

We are an active congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a member of the Presbytery of Boise.
