Bread for the World Advocacy Summit

May 1, 2025 By SPC

Southminster has been working on hunger locally through our support of the Grace Jordan Food Pantry, and nationally/internationally through our partnership with Bread for the World. This year, we’ve learned more about the systemic
problems that worsen hunger through a hunger simulation, and we’ve participated in letter writing to advocate for changes in the national legislature to help hunger.

If you are interested in pursuing advocacy further by participating in Bread For the World’s Advocacy Summit (Washington, DC, June 9-11, 2025) please visit the link below. It is the 50th anniversary of Bread For the World.

There is no deadline to register but the hotel blocks will only be reserved for the next month. Please also let Ann Agnew know if you want to attend (text her or email her). She is hoping to go and potentially share hotel expenses if acceptable.

PWS – May 2025 Updates

May 1, 2025 By SPC

We are planning a Women’s Sunday service. It will be held on June 1, 2025. This will be a renewal of our annual “Gifts of Women Sunday”, but had to stop due to Covid. We will be scheduling this annual women’s service on a regular basis going forward. It will include the installation of Presbyterian Women of Southminster’s officers. We have always held our installation during our June gathering each year, but have decided that the congregation should know who our officers are and what they do for PWS, and the church. We hope you will attend this special service.

I will have an update on the Boise Presbytery Presbyterian Women’s spring Gathering, that we hosted on April 26, in the June Messenger. Stay tuned!

Our next PWS gathering will be May 7. Our program will be Nancy Ives, who will be speaking about her travel experiences. We hope to see you there.

Transforming Small Group Book Study – Round 2

April 24, 2025 By SPC

The Transforming book study led by Drew Harenberg earlier this year was well received, and they have offered to lead a second round!

A six-week small group book study of Austen Hartke’s fantastic book Transforming: The Bible & The Lives of Transgender Christians will meet on Monday evenings (May 5 through June 16, skipping Memorial Day on May 26) from 6:30 to 8:00pm at Drew’s home.

There is no cost, but each participant should have a copy of the book. To sign up, contact Drew or the church office.

Note: this small group study is specifically designed for growth and exploration by folks of all gender identities. You do not need to be transgender, nonbinary, or otherwise gender-expansive to participate!

The Presbyterian Women of Southminster are excited to be host to the 2025 Spring Gathering of the Presbyterian Women of Boise Presbytery!

The theme will be centered around this year’s bible study and connected to Earth Day. The bible study is titled “Let Justice Roll Down: God’s Call to Care for Neighbors and All Creation.”
