Advent Wholeness Service – 12/10 at 5:00pm

November 28, 2022 By TJ Remaley

For many of us, Christmas can be a bittersweet time of year. It’s a time of great joy! Yet, it can also be a time for remembering persons and events that have been a part of our lives in the past, but that are now changed or gone. In this season with the longest nights, we’ll gather during December’s Sabbath service for a quiet, meditative worship service that makes time for remembering, sharing our hurting places with God, and preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ. Join us on December 10 at 5:00pm in the sanctuary or online for a candlelit time of music, scripture, silent reflection, communion, and prayer.

(Note for our online worshipers: if you’re able to do so, in addition to communion elements please gather a candle and something with which to light it.)

Advent Prayer – Wednesdays, 1:00pm

October 31, 2022 By TJ Remaley

“Why on earth would someone suggest that we take on one more thing during Advent? Don’t they know this is one of the busiest seasons of the church and secular year?” Well, perhaps that’s the perfect time for prayer!

Worried about the state of the world, the nation, our city, your life, or your family? Huge and minor concerns racing through your brain? Sometimes we feel helpless – writing to a congressperson or local legislator seems to get just a
form letter response. We wonder: “who will hear our voices as more than whining? What difference can one person make? What can we do alone to affect the Ukraine Invasion, women needing access to reproductive care, hungry children here and in Africa, homelessness, and on and on? What if one feels they don’t have the energy or the financial
resources to make a “big” difference? What’s left to do?” PRAY!

During the season of Advent – a time of waiting and expectant hope – our sanctuary will be open for silent prayer on Wednesday afternoons from 1:00-1:30pm. This will be an unstructured, self-guided time of silent meditation. You can
pray using your own list, items from a prepared list or following spontaneous thought of the moment.

PWS Thoughts for November

October 31, 2022 By TJ Remaley

We are close to Thanksgiving and we have so much to be thankful for. One Thankful matter is that October is over. But what a final two weeks of October they were. A great Bazaar organized by Carolyn W., Sara N., and Darleen B. Thank you ladies for the months of preparation and planning. And a big thanks to all of the ladies and gents who used their talents to make handmade items and a tip of the hat to the helpers who worked days to make the Bazaar Great.

On October 29 Southminster PWS hosted the Boise Presbyterian Gathering of ladies from 10 area churches, having our own Deanna Watson as speaker, Marianne Paul who led the worship, and Evelyn Cates who played the piano for us.

November Gathering is on the 2nd. We will meet at 11:00am for the Business Meeting, have lunch and then the program. We are excited to have Tina Polishchuk as the speaker. She is the Executive Director of the Idaho Alliance for Ukrainian Refugees and Immigrants, located in the Lighthouse Rescue Mission building in Nampa. She is hoping to bring 1-2 refugees with her as well. We hope you will invite others who might be interested. Men are welcome to come also.

Happy Thanksgiving and keep smiling.

Grace Jordan Food Pantry

October 22, 2022 By TJ Remaley

Southminster is a vital mission partner for the new community pantry at Grace Jordan Elementary School and during the first three months has already supplied more than nine (!) full grocery carts to the effort. Because local food banks are unable to assist the effort, virtually all pantry items have been sourced by our congregation. Thanks be to God for this gift of abundance, and the continued prayerful support of members and friends at Southminster.

Below is a list of ongoing items that will be needed. A shopping cart is available in the Narthex/Lobby to collect goods throughout the month. We will also make a special request for items and monetary donations on Communion Sundays, the first Sunday of the month. (If people want to make a monetary donation please indicate on the check memo “Grace Jordan Food Pantry”)
