Covenant Network Updates

April 26, 2023 By TJ Remaley

The spring board meeting of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians was held in Austin, Texas in March. TJ is a member of the board, and Southminster is a long-standing partner congregation of Covenant Network.

The following are some brief highlights of the meeting:

• Engaging Global Mission Partners— some of the PC(USA)’s world mission partners are seeking support for LGBTQIA+ advocacy and support in their local contexts. This is an exciting new venture for Covenant Network to support the church at work in the world

• The “Covenant Fellows” Program— a trained cohort of fellows will be called upon to preach, teach, and consult with congregations and presbyteries in expanding welcome and equity to LGBTQIA+ people in the church and community. (TJ is on the coordination team for this brand new effort).

• Expanding “Covenant Conversations”— After piloting this program in Boise several years ago, Covenant Network is on track to host at least 4 weekend events for LGBTQIA+ welcome/affirmation in 2023 alone!

Thank you for your continued support and prayers of the Covenant Network mission, as we continue to work together in celebrating the worth and dignity of all God’s people.

Weekly Silent Prayer Vigils

February 2, 2023 By TJ Remaley

As the 2023 Idaho State Legislative Session begins, the Interfaith Equality Coalition invites members and friends of Southminster to weekly prayer vigils in front of the Capitol building. This group works to bring equality, justice, and dignity to all people in Idaho, particularly LGBTQIA+ people.

Silent prayer vigils will be held every Wednesday from 12:00-12:30pm from now until the end of the legislation session.

PRIDE Worship – Sat. 9/10 at 5pm

September 1, 2022 By TJ Remaley

This month, our Sabbath weekend falls on the same weekend as Boise Pride. To celebrate with our LGBTQIA+ members and friends, our Sabbath Worship service for September will proclaim inclusive love for the world as we celebrate our diversity together.

Join us in the sanctuary at 5:00pm on Saturday evening for an uplifting PRIDE worship. Bonus: since we’ll have no worship on Sunday morning, it’s even easier to join our congregation’s group in the Pride Parade!

Come. Worship. Be Loved.

The Season of Peace

September 1, 2022 By TJ Remaley

The four special offerings of the PC(USA) draw Presbyterians from all over the nation and world together for a common purpose and mission. (Did you know: Southminster has long been a “4 for 4” congregation, meaning our congregation participates in all four denominational offerings!)  The annual “Season of Peace” is held each September, culminating with the Peace & Global Witness Offering collected on World Communion Sunday, October 2. This offering provides resources for nurturing reconciliation locally and globally. To participate, look for a specially-marked offering envelope on World Communion Sunday.

Backpack Drive

July 28, 2022 By TJ Remaley

Since 2001, the Presbyterian Women of Southminster have held an annual backpack and supply drive for local elementary schools and the Boise/Ada County Housing Agencies. Through the years, the reach of this mission has grown from 50 backpacks to now over 500 backpacks annually!

Want to help?

Presbyterian Women will be gathering at the church on August 2 and 3 from 9:00am-12:00pm to organize, tag, fill, and prepare backpacks for distribution. You are welcome to join.

This year, with prices skyrocketing, expenses are expected to exceed the funds available from grants and Bazaar proceeds, so the team is also in need of additional financial support. Checks made payable to “PWS Backpack Program” can be submitted to the office, in the offering plate during worship, or given directly to PWS Treasurer Priscilla Oja.

Thank you again for supporting this important mission project!
