Being Earth’s Stewards – New Recycling Options at Southminster

February 28, 2025 By SPC

Presbyterian Women of Southminster are participating in a Bible Study this 2024/25 year called Let Justice Roll Down: God’s call to care for neighbors and all creation. It has nine topics that relate to being good stewards of the earth God has loaned to us. The monthly topics are: Environmental Justice, Land Justice, Food Justice, Water Justice, Air Quality, Climate Change, Economic Climate Justice, Intergenerational Justice, and Sustaining Creation’s Health for All.

We feel that we should practice what we are learning. To that end, four white bins with orange liners have been placed in the following areas:

  • Narthex food area
  • Cana Room by the coffeemakers
  • Just inside exterior basement door
  • Genesis Room

Laminated lists are posted on each bin for what is acceptable to be recycled. Full bags can be tied shut and placed inside the blue recycling bin just inside the exterior basement door. Replacement bags will be stored above the food area sink in the narthex. As our use of these new bins grows, it’s possible we’ll start to outpace our recycling contract. To avoid additional expenses, members of PWS are prepared to take excess recycling to their homes to add to their own recycle collection at no added cost to them.

PWS – March 2025 Updates

February 28, 2025 By SPC

We have set the date for hosting the Boise Presbytery Presbyterian Women’s Spring Gathering. The event will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 9AM-2PM. A short worship service, a business meeting, and a program (speaker to be announced at a later date) will be held in the sanctuary. This will be followed by lunch downstairs in the Cana room. All are welcome to this event. Look for flyers to be posted soon around the church.

Our next SPW monthly gathering will be on March 5. Our program will be our own Priscilla Oja and Sue Olszewski speaking on Banned Books. Come for lunch and see what we’re all about. We’d love to meet you.

Chili & Soup Feed – 3/8 after Worship

February 25, 2025 By SPC

It’s that perfect time of year to whip up a batch of homemade soup or chili and show off your amazing culinary skills! That’s right, it’s time for our Chili and Soup Feed, Saturday, March 8th around 6:15pm, following Sabbath Service.

Sign-up sheets have been placed in the Narthex for people to sign up to bring soup, chili, sides, and even desserts. We are also looking for people that are interested in helping with set up and clean up.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to anyone on the Connections Committee: Carla, Juno, Kathryn, or Carol.

February 25, 2025 By SPC

The Lenten journey from the ashes of death to the promise of resurrected life begins on the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday. Join us for worship (in-person and online) on Wednesday March 5 at 7:00pm as we gather for an experiential service of worship, including the imposition of ashes.

Prefer Your Ashes to Go?
This year, Pastor TJ is joining clergy from several other Mainline Protestant denominations in offering “Ashes on the Go” in downtown Boise, at the corner of 8th and Bannock. There will be folks available from 8:00-10:00am, 11:00am- 1:00pm, and 5:00-7:00pm. TJ will be present for the lunchtime shift.

PWS – February 2025 Updates

February 1, 2025 By SPC

Merry Christmas from SPW! What?! Christmas is over?! So it is. I apologize for missing last month’s messenger. December just got away from me. So, let me catch you up.

At our December gathering we put together plates of cookies for the staff at Grace Jordan and our own staff at Southminster. We also decorated Christmas cards to send to all of our shut-ins. After a nice lunch, we had a few rousing games of Christmas bingo and sang carols around the piano accompanied by our own Evelyn Cates.

In January T.J. came down to install our new vice moderator, Jackie Benjamin. She graciously volunteered to fill the post that has been vacant since last June. Thank you, Jackie!!

Our next big project will be to host the Boise Presbytery PW’s Spring Gathering. Watch for more news about that.
